Why Customer Validation Is the Real Lifeline for Open Source Sustainability
2026-06-03 , Main stage

Funding open source development through grants, public policies, and community donations is important — but it is only part of the equation. The long-term sustainability of open source projects also depends on whether real organizations adopt them, rely on them, and are willing to invest in their ecosystem. Understanding the customer's perspective — and the role that OSPOs can play in lowering the barriers to adoption — can unlock a powerful and often overlooked driver of open source success.

Passionate about business and organizational models, Valentina has been working in business development in the open source software industry for over fifteen years. With a degree in Communication Sciences, she has spent her entire career in the open source world. She currently leads the offering development and positioning of RIOS — Rete Italiana Open Source (Italian Open Source Network) and serves as General Director of Seacom Srl SB. Curious about human nature, she is deeply engaged in all causes related to integration and equal rights.
